Varifocal glasses: why you get what you pay for when buying progressive lenses

As we age, most of us will need some help with our vision, whether for reading or for reading and seeing things at a distance. With age, just like the muscles in our body, the muscles in our eyes stiffen, so adjusting to different focal lengths can become difficult. However, at Respectacle Company, we have all the solutions to help.

Typically, around 40 and older, many people start having difficulty focusing on close objects. They usually find their eye’s lens struggles to focus on nearby objects. This condition, called presbyopia, is a normal part of the ageing process. There are numerous different solutions available. But on this occasion, we want to delve deeper into varifocals, also known as progressive lenses.

There are a lot of progressive lenses on the market, and they are all designed differently, depending on your needs, lifestyle and budget. As the adage goes, “You get what you pay for.” And that’s true when it comes to progressive lenses. We partner with world-leading SeikoVision and have many customers who, once dispensed with Seiko progressive lenses, are amazed at the incredible clarity and overall vision provided by Seiko varifocal lenses.

The lowdown on progressive lenses

Let’s start from the beginning because you may be unfamiliar with progressive or varifocal lenses. A progressive lens is a lens which has different prescriptions in different parts of the lens. The top of the lens contains the patient’s distance prescription. As the wearer looks down through the lenses, as one naturally does when looking at a computer, digital device or book, the lenses adjust to mimic the head movement. This allows the prescription to blend down through the lens corridor, giving the wearer their intermediate and reading prescriptions in their natural head position.

When manufacturing this type of lens and blending the prescription across the surface of the lenses, there will always be some peripheral blurring. And this is where we believe Seiko lenses are superior to many other manufacturers. The extensive research, development, and technology invested in each lens design result in smaller areas of peripheral blurring, providing much larger areas of clear vision and a more comfortable wearing experience.

Seiko lenses are now so sophisticated they no longer rely on average measurements to determine the fitting for each patient. We have invested in state-of-the-art measuring devices and have undergone extensive training to ensure we record and understand the most accurate measurements for every pair of lenses tailored to the individual. With these exceptional lenses, it is vital to record these measurements and to fully understand how and why these measurements can affect the wearer’s prescription and overall visual experience.

Seiko is a leading manufacturer of high-quality progressive lenses

Many new customers come to us because they have had a bad experience elsewhere on the high street and have found the varifocal spectacles dispensed for them unwearable. Most of the time, we find that it is the combination of the two aspects above, fully understanding the design of the lenses being dispensed and correctly fitting progressive lenses.

We take great pride in offering the best products and have the extensive knowledge to deliver a high-quality service with the best solutions available to meet the visual needs of all our clients. We know we are not the cheapest supplier of progressive lenses. However, we believe that Seiko lenses are one the best optical lenses on the market, offering our customers the best visual and cosmetic solutions.

We have invested in state of the art measuring devices

It saddens us when new customers come to us having had a bad experience with varifocal lenses. So, if you have had a similar experience, please give us a try. Pardon the pun, but we will help you see varifocals in a new light!

Check out our 5-star Google reviews from over 150 satisfied customers! And we’ll leave you with some parting words from our client, Dorte, who recently made the switch to varifocal lenses and says it has been a game changer:

“After two years of shoving my glasses in my hair because I couldn’t see anything up close, I gave in and got varifocals. I’d heard so much bad stuff about varifocals and really wasn’t interested in any dizziness, tripping up, headaches, any of what I’d heard.

“I put the glasses on in the shop, walked about doing some shopping, amazed at how much I could see, drove home and never gave it another thought.

“I wish I had gotten these varifocal glasses years ago. I could have saved myself so much hassle not being able to read things on my phone and so much time looking for my glasses.

“For anyone else out there in denial of their need for varifocals, go and look at your options.”
