  • Whereabouts is your optical store located?

You can find us in Manor Walk, a lovely car-free shopping precinct off Coventry Road in Market Harborough. Manor Walk is home to a variety of independent shops and a café.

  • What are the benefits of using an independent opticians compared to one of the well-known high street chains?

  • What days do you test?

We currently run clinics on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Appointments are available from 9 am to 4.30 pm. Please call 01858 433577 or email hello@respectaclecompany.co.uk if you would like to book an eye test with our optometrist.

  • How often should I have my eyes tested?

You should have a full eye examination every two years or as directed by your optometrist.

  • I’ve never had an eye test before. What does it involve?

At Respectacle Company, our comprehensive eye examinations consist of a series of tests to check your vision and the overall health of your eyes. There are many ways to test your eyes, so every eye examination is individual and tailored to the patient’s needs. The tests we carry out are non-invasive, and our very experienced optometrist will explain each aspect of the eye examination.

  • How long does an eye examination take?

The time we allocate to provide a comprehensive eye examination will be appropriate for the individual and their needs. In general, the examination takes between 30 minutes and 1 hour.

  • I’ve heard a lot about OCT scans. What exactly is an OCT scan and why should I have one?

Optical Coherence Tomography is an advanced detailed scan that images a cross-section through the layers of the eye, similar to an ultrasound. This hospital-grade scan can detect very small abnormalities or changes within the eye structure. The technology helps to detect many potentially serious eye conditions at a very early stage, such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, macular holes, and vitreous detachments. Detected early enough, many of these conditions can be successfully treated or managed. It’s also an accurate benchmark for any future changes within the structure of the eyes.

  • How much does an OCT scan cost?

There is an additional charge for an OCT scan due to the extra time involved in taking the scan and explaining the findings. Please get in touch with us if you would like to know more.

  • Am I eligible for an NHS funded eye test?

Some people are exempt from paying for their eye examinations and are covered under the NHS scheme. It includes:

Children under the age of 16 years old.
Full-time students under the age of 19 years old.
People over the age of 60 years old.
People who are over the age of 40 and have a history of glaucoma within the family.
    People who are diabetic.
Some government benefits also qualify for the NHS funded eye examination.

  • How do I make an appointment for an eye test?

There are several ways to book an eye examination with Respectacle Company. You can call us on 01858 433577, email hello@respectaclecompany.co.uk, message us through our social channels (Facebook and Instagram) or complete the booking form on our website.

  • How much does an eye test cost?

Respectacle Company offers different consultation fees depending on the customer’s requirements and entitlement to NHS funding. For a full quotation, please call 01858 433577 and speak to one of our team.

  • I’m thinking of trying contact lenses. Can I get a free trial?

There is an initial fee for this service. We will need to carry out a comprehensive eye examination and contact lens consultation to assess the prescription and suitability for contact lenses. There is no charge for the trial lenses or subsequent appointments for care, handling contact lenses and assessing fit and comfort.

  • How much do contact lenses cost?

There are many different types of contact lenses currently on the market and we offer a variety of lenses depending on prescription, material, and type of wear. Please call 01858 433577, and we can discuss the different options in more detail.

  • What’s the difference between single vision and multifocal contact lenses?

A single vision lens gives the wearer the same prescription contact lens throughout the lenses. However, as our prescription changes and we age, many people need more help with close work and reading. Multifocal contact lenses give the wearer their distance prescription, but an additional prescription in the reading area of the lenses allows us to see clearly at all distances.

  • You sell some fabulous eyewear. What brands do you stock?

As a small family-run independent optician, we enjoy sourcing frame collections from around the globe, looking for artisan frame manufacturers who offer high-quality, individually designed eyewear only available through select, independent optical stores within the UK. We don’t stock mass-produced frames. Instead, we partner with the best optical brands in the UK, Europe and beyond. We offer carefully selected eyewear from brands like Caroline Abram, Theo, Vinylize, L.G.R and FEB31st.

  • How much do your frames cost?

Here at Respectacle Company, we offer a wide selection of spectacle frames, with prices starting from £150 for good quality metal and acetate frames. Our most popular collections range between £200 – £400, moving upwards to our handmade, bespoke eyewear collections at the higher end of the spectrum. We feel we have something fabulous to offer all our customers’ pockets.

  • I don’t live locally, but you stock a frame I’ve fallen in love with. Can you sell me just the frame and post it to me?

We like to be able to help our customers in person so we can advise about style, fit, and suitable lenses for the individual’s prescription and requirements. But we do and have sent frames to customers around the UK and even in Europe.

  • How do I avoid getting scratches on my glasses?

It’s important to care for your eyewear as best you can by following a few tips:

Always keep your glasses in their case when you’re not wearing them.

Avoid putting the lens face down.

Only use a microfibre cloth to clean them.

Remove any grit or rough particles with water or a lens cleaning spray before you clean them with a cloth.

  • How do I know what type of lenses to choose?

There are so many different types of lenses available on the market. However, our very qualified and experienced team can advise our customers about the most suitable lenses for their prescription, lifestyle, and needs. We will explain what the numbers mean and how that translates into spectacle lenses. So, whether you need progressive lenses with photochromic and road clear coating,  single vision in a 1.67 index or occupational lenses with a blue filter, we have all the knowledge and advice to allow you to make an informed choice for your individual needs.

  • How do I keep my glasses clean?

All of our spectacles and sunglasses come complete with a cleaning cloth and cleaning spray. These microfibre cloths are suitable for everyday cleaning. However, should your lenses become greasy or have a build-up of dust or dirt, you can use the cleaning spray with the microfibre cloth. We also stock a useful little accessory called the ‘Eyeshaker’. This innovative spectacle cleaning system will give your eyewear a deep clean.

  • What do the numbers and letters mean on my prescription?

A prescription is made up of sphere and cylinder corrections with an axis given in many prescriptions to determine the position of the cylinder correction. Some people are prescribed prisms, reading additions, and binocular adds. It is quite a complex subject, but our fully qualified and experienced staff will always fully explain your prescription during your consultation.
