With the introduction of face coverings last year, those of us who wear spectacles soon realised that face masks and glasses were far from a match made in heaven. Not surprisingly, since the start of the pandemic, we’ve been inundated with customers asking us how to stop their glasses from fogging up. If only we had a pound for every time we were asked that question!
Whatever you’ve been doing today, it’s likely to have involved using one of the many digital devices that seem to dominate our lives. From checking the weather forecast, catching up on the news, texting friends, or carrying out meetings via Zoom, chances are you’ve been staring at a ‘screen’ for several hours. And we all know the negative effects long-term use of digital devices can have on our eyes.
One of the questions that we’re frequently asked is ‘how do I keep my glasses clean’? What people don’t seem to appreciate is that the majority of us wear our spectacles all day every day. And in the majority of cases for a good couple of years. Most of us wouldn’t wear the same pair of shoes every day for two years and expect them to stay in pristine condition. We can’t expect our spectacles to stay in tip top condition and certainly not if we don’t care about keeping them clean.
A killer pair of sunglasses is a staple of our summer wardrobe and it’s probably a staple of yours too. For us it’s not just about looking good; it’s also about protecting our precious eyes from the harsh bright sunshine. It’s one of the reasons why National Sunglasses Day was established on the 27th June; to highlight the importance of wearing high quality eyewear to protect against harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays.
