The True Cost of Spectacles

The cost of many everyday things continues to spiral around us. Here in the UK, inflation is at a forty-year high. And the media constantly talks about soaring energy bills and fuel prices. It’s no wonder people are being quite cautious about spending money. Many of us are tightening our belts and thinking a little bit more carefully about what we buy and how we spend our money.

We have noticed the same caution in our customers when spending money on new spectacles. So, we thought now would be a good time to discuss the cost of glasses and the importance of investing in a good-quality pair. Yes, the initial outlay may seem expensive. But quality spectacles will serve you better in the long term. Cheaper glasses are less robust and won’t last as long.

At Respectacle Company, we don’t profess to be the cheapest opticians in town. But we offer high-quality eyewear and optical lens solutions selected by our qualified and experienced team for each customer’s lifestyle and needs. Our prices reflect the technology and craftsmanship that goes into developing and manufacturing our frames and lenses. And because we believe in what we offer, we guarantee all our products and services.

There’s no denying that the initial outlay for spectacles can be expensive. And especially so if the purchase includes progressive lenses. But most of us wear our spectacles practically every day of the year. And we expect them to serve us well for about two years of constant wear. So, the initial outlay is worth it. Take a moment to break down the cost over the lifetime of your glasses. Your spectacles are costing you around £1 per day. That’s less than your favourite takeaway coffee.

Of course, it’s all a matter of perspective. We recall one customer questioning the cost of his driving spectacles. Indeed, the gentleman could have saved himself quite a bit of money by selling his almost new car. Without his spectacles, he wasn’t legally able to drive. So, in the grand scheme of things, the cost of the glasses was a small percentage of the cost of his car, which he really enjoyed driving. Our job can involve explaining the importance of eye care and the benefits of good-quality eyewear to customers. Which we are only too happy to do.

It is a similar situation with good quality progressive lenses. There are many different brands on the market, which all vary in quality. But to achieve a better vision and wider field of view requires more development and technology. Progressive lenses are a complex design to work a different prescription through the lenses. So, to minimise peripheral distortion, a good quality lens is required. We partner with Seiko lenses which we believe offer a range of highly engineered lens solutions for all our customers’ needs. Seiko lenses are so good that we guarantee all our lenses. At the end of the day, why compromise on your vision? It’s like the old saying, ‘you get what you pay for’. And with eyewear, you most definitely do.

The next time you think about the cost of a new pair of spectacles, remember the importance of having a good solution for your eyewear needs. A good pair of spectacles enables you to function and participate in all the hobbies and interests that bring you joy. We don’t think you can – or should – put a price on that.

Please pop into the optical practice to view our range of high-quality spectacles and sunglasses. Come and have a chat with our eyewear experts, Alison and Chris. The optical store is on Manor Walk, in Market Harborough. We are open Tuesday to Friday, from 9 am to 5 pm. Saturday opening hours are 9 am to 4 pm. Come and experience a high standard of customer care from a local independent optician.

If you wish to purchase your eyewear online, browse our online store. We stock a wide range of brands, including Caroline Abram, Theo, Lamarca, Coral, Albert I’mStein, Booth and Bruce, and L.G.R. Our online shop offers a small selection of frames in each collection. More frames are available if you visit the optical in person.
