Spotlight on Caroline Abram
Caroline Abram is one of the most exciting and stylish eyewear brands we stock at our Respectacle store in Market Harborough. As long time fans of the Parisian designer, we are delighted to be able to showcase her gorgeous frames. The eyewear collection has been a big hit with our customers, and especially our female cliental who have a preference for elegant feminine frames that ooze sophistication. So naturally we’re excited to shine the spotlight on Caroline for our latest brand blog.
Caroline truly has an eye for eyewear – pardon the pun! She studied optometry and started her optical career working as an optician in a family business. Her father was an eye surgeon, and her mother owned an optical boutique in Paris, which was one of the first to showcase independent eyewear designers. She eventually discovered an interest and passion for design, which saw her establish her own company in 1995, designing jewels and accessories for the eyewear market. Having grown up in West Africa, her accessories were hand crafted by women in Senegal.
Then, in 2008, Caroline launched her very own range of optical frames. She wanted her collection to be unlike anything else available on the eyewear market, and a trip to sunny Miami in Florida led Caroline to create a range of cat’s eye shaped frames inspired by the elegance and charm of South Beach in the sixties. At the time, optical stores were reluctant to stock cat’s eye frames, believing their customers wouldn’t be interested. Now, eleven years on, practically every eyewear collection has them.
Since launching her very first collection, Caroline Abram frames have become known for their distinctive appearance, with curvaceous shapes, bevel edges and a seductive colour palette featuring bold colours – no doubt inspired by the women of Senegal. Every single frame, regardless of shape, embraces what Caroline calls “the lift”, which is designed to create “happy lines”. These lines, Caroline says, are a way of distracting you from the lines on a woman’s face she’d rather not be noticed, such as the line underneath the nose.
The cat’s eye continues to feature prominently in her collections, but frames of various shapes have been incorporated into her repertoire. 2014 also saw Caroline Abram launch a range of eyewear specifically for children.
For our customers who like a bit of glamour, Caroline Abram has become their go-to choice, for both optical frames and sunglasses. The collection features frames made of metal and/or acetate, combining retro curves and modern styling. We have in stock a range of Caroline Abram frames that we know our customers will love. Beauty is an acetate frame available in a variety of colours including black, emerald green/light pink and havana/black. We also have Wava, a combination of metal and acetate, available in black/wine, plum/blue and red/pink. Another model we stock is Ute, a combination frame in brown/pink and havana/brushed gold.
