Thinner, Lighter Frames and Cosmetic Tints Are In
Global colour authority Pantone has revealed its Colour of the Year for 2025, and it’s a shade we can wholeheartedly get behind! The chosen colour is Mocha Mousse, a warm brown hue with earthy undertones. This comforting colour is unpretentious as a timeless classic with a depth of richness and sophistication. Think of coffee and chocolate – warm, comforting and soothing. It’s giving 2010 Ripple advert vibes!
Keep it classy with Pantone Colour of the Year Mocha Mousse
We’ve already seen a lot of this colour palette popping up within the current Autumn/Winter eyewear collections. L.G.R. features a lovely warm caramel running through many of their models. Johannesburg in Crystal Brown is one example of a frame colour that’s right on trend. Caroline Abram showcases a beautiful buffed mocha swirl in the model Lilou from the Parisian brand’s 25th anniversary collection, Lady L. Many eyewear brands are incorporating this warm hue alongside complementary colours throughout their new collections. We’re going to see a lot more of these warm, earthy brown tones accentuating eyewear throughout the year.

Go green to make a statement
Green is another colour which is bang on trend for 2025. From light green to deep military green, this hue offers something for everyone, as it complements all skin tones and hair colours. The key is to choose the right depth of colour to enhance your complexion. Italian brand L.G.R have again come up trumps with a beautiful, full bodied deep emerald green running through their new releases. Some models incorporate a translucent green, which adds an intriguing dimension and opens the colourway to a wider palette of complexions and tones. Dakhla from L.G.R in Emerald Green is a fine example of this vibrant and versatile colour.

Thinner, lighter and brighter eyewear will be big this year
Over the last few years, we’ve seen a lot of heavy, chunky eyewear, and this style will always have a prominent place in the optics market. It’s a style that seems to be a staple on optical store shelves and is especially popular with people who don’t tend to follow trends and have their own distinctive look. Another predicted 2025 eyewear trend is a shift towards lighter and thinner frames. The classic shapes – like the timeless aviator and cat eye – remain popular, but the materials used are being reimagined as manufacturing innovations move forward. Expect to see thinner acetate and coloured titanium frames appearing on store shelves throughout 2025. This year, the focus is on creating thinner, lighter and brighter eyewear.
Experiment with cosmetic tints to add a fresh dimension
Light cosmetic tints are another big trend for 2025 and are expected to remain popular for a few years. Traditionally, tinted lenses – either solid or graduated in grey or brown – were an option for dark sunglasses. However, many people are choosing lighter tints to add a fresh dimension to their day-to-day ophthalmic spectacles, and we at Respectacle love this trend. It’s especially exciting when people want to experiment with colour, as it can look amazing.

Consider adding a cosmetic tint to your ophthalmic spectacles

Light cosmetic trends are very popular right now
So, instead of choosing a clear lens with an anti-reflection coating, we recommend considering a light graduated tint over the top of the lens in a colour to complement both the wearer’s skin tone and the frame. This not only makes the frame stand out but can also soften the appearance of wrinkles, bags or dark circles – much like a soft-focus effect in photography! We have a variety of colours to choose from, including greens, pinks, purples, and blues – the options are almost endless. It’s worth considering for your new eyewear.
